About Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is a city famous for its temples that is located in the north of Thailand. Although it is not particularly old, the newly built White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) is very popular and has become one of the city’s icons.

The city experiences 3 different seasons; hot, rainy, and cool. The city receives heavy rainfall in May and June in particular. We would recommend planning your trip to avoid the rainy summer months. Chiang Rai offers a beautiful landscape with waterfalls, lush vegetation, and serene hills behind the flatlands.

Chiang Rai can be reached by plane from Thailand’s capital, Bangkok; the flight takes about an hour. You can also enjoy a tour on the Mae Kok River; the boats take off at Tha Ton and head to Chiang Rai with magnificent views along the way. Overall the city is safe but when it comes to drinking water, we recommend drinking bottled water. As in other Thai cities, getting a massage is among the top activities tourists prefer. You can easily explore the city on foot.
