Located in Finnmark County, Norway, the city of Hammerfest is known as a very old settlement. The downtown area experienced the effects of many wars but today has rose to an important position in the field of tourism. Hammerfest is located very close to the North Pole. The city is equipped with diverse fishing centers and hunting areas located throughout. The city has an important port named the Port of Hammerfest. Due to its geographical position Hammerfest is under the influence of the Gulf Stream and experiences a humid subarctic continental climate. In the months of November, December, and January the sun doesn’t rise in Hammerfest while in the months of May, June, and July the sun never sets.

There are many burial mounds, architectural structures and natural parks around the city of Hammerfest. The most important attractions include the Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society, the Museum of Reconstruction for Finnmark and Northern Troms, Hammerfest Church, Struve Geodetic Arc, Fountain Mother and Child, and Lekeland. Since it is a city in Norway, the first thing that comes to mind regarding food culture in Hammerfest is fish. However they have come up with a variety of unique cooking techniques, serving delicious fish dishes that are extremely popular among both locals and tourists. The smoked salmon is among the most popular dish in the city. Beer is also very popular in the city, which has a very intense and vibrant nightlife with grand shows and parties take place throughout the year.
