The city of Jonkoping, located in the south of Sweden, has a population of about 85.000 people according to 2005 data. Sweden's ninth largest city, Jonkoping, is located on the southern shores of Vattern Lake. The history of the city, a former commercial center, dates back to the 13th century.

The city, with a rapidly increasing population due to its strategic location in the Lake District, became the official city of Sweden in 1284. The city, which has suffered a great deal of damage during the course of its history, is rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. The city, which takes its name from the Junebacken River, had been famous for its match-making industry in the past, but nowadays it is known as the host of the central branches of famous brands like IKEA, Electrolux and Husqvarna.
