Located in Nemaha, Nebraska, United States, Peru had a population of approximately 865 people according to the 2010 census. The 2010 census showed 99 families living in the city, with the majority of the population being white with 4.3% African American and 0.9% Native American. The Peru State College provides education in the city, which has a humid continental climate.
There are weather variations from the east to the west of the city, with a humid continental climate in the east and a semi-arid climate in the western. Summers are hot while winters can be very cold. The region is heavily inhabited by Catholics but is also home to Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterian, and other religious groups.
