There are different options to reach the airport from the city center in Cairo, visited by many tourists every year. The services that the hotels usually offer or arrange for you and public transport are the first ones that come to mind.

Airport Transfer

Transfer vehicles that are privately rented from Cairo International Airport and shuttles of the Cairo Airport Shuttle Bus company will pick you up at your requested destination upon your telephone and internet reservation. You can reach the airport from any point of the city by using the shuttles, whose fares are changing according to the region you take it.

Public Transport

It will be possible to reach the airport with the subway lines passing through Zamalek, Wasat Al-Balad and the Nile's eastern region, which we refer to as the center of Cairo, in a few years, but you can only reach the areas close by at the moment. Al Dock, Opera, Sedat (Tahrir) and Naguib are the metro stations close to the center.

You need to transfer to the Green Line at Attaba station from Yellow Line, which hosts the above mentioned stations.

Even if it does not reach the airport yet, you can get off at the Abbasiye station and complete the 15 kilometers distance by taxi or bus number 111. It is also possible to reach the airport by buses 27, 111, 356 from Tahrir Square where Sedat metro station is located.

Private Vehicle

Although it is a great merit to use private vehicles in Cairo, which is similar to Istanbul with regards to its traffic and size, there may be people who want to reach the airport by private vehicles. To do this, you have to follow the Oroba road, in the east direction, to go to the airport from Zamalek island and Tahrir in the city center.

Oroba route will take you to Airport Road, which will provide you with access to the airport, after 17 kilometers.

There are many options to reach the city center from the airport, which is located in the north of Porto city center. Metro stands out as the most preferred option by the hundreds of thousands of passengers. It is also possible to reach different points of the city by taking the advantage of buses. Taxi and car rental are less preferred for transportation because other means of transportation are of good quality, fast and economical.

Taxi

There are the taxis of many different taxi companies in front of the terminal building for those who want to travel by taxi. It is a great convenience that taxi drivers know English. If the area you are going to is not near the subway or bus line, you can prefer to get there by taxi. Taxis are generally of secondary importance because other transportation options provide service until late hours to many parts of the city. Taking into consideration that a higher rate is applied in the night and on weekends compared to standard tariff, other transportation alternatives may be more reasonable.

Bus

Three different bus lines, the buses 601, 602 and 3M, allow you to reach the city center from the airport. You can take advantage of the buses, which depart every 30 minutes, at 06:01 at the earliest and at 01:25 at the latest. It takes about an hour from the airport to the city center by bus. In addition to these three bus lines run by the municipality, you can also prefer private buses which are more comfortable and safe.

Metro

The purple metro line provides transportation to the city center from Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport. Metro services start at 05:58 and go on until 00:36 and it is possible to get to the city center from the airport in about half an hour. You can buy a ticket at the station in order to get on the metro, which departs every five minutes. If you get off the metro, which serves between the airport and Estadio do Dragao, at the Trindade station, you can reach the city center.

Transfer Vehicle

If you prefer, you can reach the city center more comfortably by taking the advantage of transfer vehicles, which are a little more costly compared to the city buses.
