There are different options to reach the airport from the city center in Cairo, visited by many tourists every year. The services that the hotels usually offer or arrange for you and public transport are the first ones that come to mind.

Airport Transfer

Transfer vehicles that are privately rented from Cairo International Airport and shuttles of the Cairo Airport Shuttle Bus company will pick you up at your requested destination upon your telephone and internet reservation. You can reach the airport from any point of the city by using the shuttles, whose fares are changing according to the region you take it.  

Airport transfers also include London-style taxis, limousines and luxurious midibuses. All you have to do is to make reservations and be at the place where you want the cars to pick you up.

Public Transport

It will be possible to reach the airport with the subway lines passing through Zamalek, Wasat Al-Balad and the Nile's eastern region, which we refer to as the center of Cairo, in a few years, but you can only reach the areas close by at the moment. Al Dock, Opera, Sedat (Tahrir) and Naguib are the metro stations close to the center.

You need to transfer to the Green Line at Attaba station from Yellow Line, which hosts the above mentioned stations.

Even if it does not reach the airport yet, you can get off at the Abbasiye station and complete the 15 kilometers distance by taxi or bus number 111. It is also possible to reach the airport by buses 27, 111, 356 from Tahrir Square where Sedat metro station is located.

Private Vehicle

Although it is a great merit to use private vehicles in Cairo, which is similar to Istanbul with regards to its traffic and size, there may be people who want to reach the airport by private vehicles. To do this, you have to follow the Oroba road, in the east direction, to go to the airport from Zamalek island and Tahrir in the city center.

Oroba route will take you to Airport Road, which will provide you with access to the airport, after 17 kilometers.

Airport Information

The airport, in the Heliopolis area, is the second airport in Africa with regards to passenger traffic. With the completion of the newly constructed terminals, there are also many possibilities offered for those waiting for their flight.

Japanese, Chinese and Korean restaurants representing the Asian lifestyle, world famous fast-food restaurants, coffee shops where you can drink the most famous coffees of the world and pizzerias are waiting for guests at Terminal 1. You can also access health services at the airport, which has a large duty free store.

Sylt Airport serves air travel to and from Westerland and is located only 2 km east of the city center. There are a variety of transportation alternatives available to get to Westerland from the airport including shuttles, city buses, taxis, or rental car.

City buses provide convenient transportation between Sylt Airport and Westerland. Buses are the only public transport option available. Compared to other means of transportation buses provide a more affordable service to Westerland. Airport buses are another option since they provide transportation to stops at most of the central parts of Westerland. Private shuttle buses are another alternative you could use to get to Westerland from the airport.

Taxi

Taxis are a convenient alternative to get to Westerland and are prefer among locals and tourists. Since Sylt Airport is located such a short distance from the center of Westerland taking a taxi is an affordable option. Taxis are a more preferred means of transport than buses because they are both economical and convenient. The yellow taxis are readily available at the airport exit. It takes as little as 3 minutes to get to Westerland from Sylt Airport by taxi.

Rental Car

There are many local and international rental car companies that have offices at Sylt Airport. These companies offer reasonably priced alternatives. Since the airport is located in such close proximity to Westerland, most rental car companies offer the option of renting a vehicle for 1-hour. All you need to do is make a reservation 1-2 hours before your arrival.

There are 3 different routes you can take to drive to Westerland from Sylt Airport. It takes 9 minutes to get to Westerland via Bastianstraße, 7 minutes via the L24, and 6 minutes via Bahnweg.
