Transportation to Airport from Chisinau City Center

Chisinau International Airport

Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, is a large industrial city located along the river Bâc. Chisinau International Airport opens its doors to passengers who want to visit Chisinau, Moldova's most developed and populated city. Chisinau is divided into two main regions, the old part of the city and the new part of the city, which is considered the city center. Stefan cel Mare Street and Stefan cel Mare Park make up the city center. The Chisinau railway station is located in the city center and is the only train station in the city. Despite the presence of railways, urban rail transportation is not provided in the city. Buses are not a very popular method of transportation within the city either.

Trolleybuses and minibuses called "rutiera" are very important methods of public transportation in the city. You need to buy tickets to travel on public transportation vehicles in the city. Once on board you must show your ticket to the ticket collector. You can purchase a single-use ticket or monthly tickets. Monthly tickets are a better option for those who are planning on a longer stay in the city.

Traveling by taxi or rental car are other convenient alternatives in addition to public transportation. You can get to the airport from the city center via private airport shuttles or minibuses. These vehicles depart from the city center, which is accessible via public transportation vehicles from almost any part of the city.

The airport is also accessible via taxi or rental car. Both alternatives provide direct and quick transportation from the city center to the airport.

Shuttle

Chisinau International Airport's own private shuttle provides transportation from the city center to the airport. The route starts at Dimitrie Cantemir Square, and continues to Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfînt Street, C. Negruzzi Street, Yuri Gagarin Street, Decebal Street, Dacia Street, and then ends at the airport.

Minibus (Rutieră)

Minibuses are the most convenient option to get to the airport from the city center. Minibuses cost the same as the airport shuttle services do, however they run more frequently than the shuttle does. Minibuses that provide transportation to the airport run every 10 minutes. Minibus line 165 passes by Ismail Street, Dimitrie Cantemir Street, Yuri Gagarin Ave., Decebal Street, Trandafirilor, and Dacia Ave before arriving at the airport.

Ticket prices are quite affordable but if you have a large suitcase you might have to pay an extra fee. Usually there is an assistant sitting next to the driver. If there is an assistant in the vehicle, and the vehicle does not have an automatic door system, the minibus doors are opened by that assistant.

There aren’t that many designated minibus stops but drivers will usually stop wherever you want to get off. However, according to new legislation issued recently, the driver is technically only allowed to let you off at designated minibus stops. Some minibus lines can travel on more than one route within the city. So it would be beneficial to follow the route display screen on board to understand where the vehicle is going. To hail a minibus in the street, simply raise your hand.

Trolleybus

The airport is not directly served by trolleybus from the city center. However, you can access minibus and airport shuttles that travel to the airport by trolleybus. One of the most important means of public transport in Chisinau is by trolleybus.

There are twenty-two trolleybus lines that operate in the city. These lines include, line 1 the str. Bariera Sculeni – str. Sarmizegetusa route, line 4 the Gradina Botanica – str. Zelinski route, line 5 the parcul "La izvor" route, line 17 the Schinossa 1 route, line 20 the str. Dokuceaev route, and line 28 the or. Durlești – bd. Gagarin route, all of which connect with the Chisinau railway station.

Bus

In Chisinau, traveling bus isn’t very common within the city. However, buses are a popular alternative for transportation between cities and to other countries. So if you want to travel to nearby areas from Chisinau, then traveling by bus is a convenient option. There are 3 bus terminals in Chisinau, the Central Station, Gara de Nord and Gara de Sud.

Train

Just as with buses, trains provide transit services between cities or between countries. Located in the city center, the Chisinau Central Railway Station provides public transportation services to Romania, Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries.

Taxi

There are about forty taxi companies operating in the city. These companies provide transportation both within the city and outside of the city. You can easily hail a cab in the street or arrange one over the phone. When you contact the taxi company by phone often there is someone who speaks English. Taxi rates are much more expensive when compared to public transportation alternatives.

Rental Car

Another transportation alternative to get to the airport is by rental car. There are various rental car offices located in the city that you can choose from. Renting a car is a fast and convenient way to get to the airport. You can also reserve a vehicle in advance online.

Airport Information

Located 13 km southeast of the city center, Chisinau International Airport is Moldova's main international airport. The airport has a private area for VIP guests. This area features private car parking, free Wi-Fi access, and special service personnel that will take care of your flight operations.

Passengers who want to go shopping can enjoy a wide range of tax-free products at the Duty Free stores located at the airport.

The airport also offers passengers private conference rooms, children’s play areas, baby care rooms, medical aid units, and special areas throughout the terminal that offer free Wi-Fi.

Transportation to Kars City Center from Airport

Harakani Airport

Kars Airport is only 7 kilometer from the city center. If you want to get to the city center from the airport, you can prefer taxi, municipal bus and rental car as well as the Sınır Tourism shuttle services that provide transportation service in agreement with airline companies. The hotels in Sarıkamış Winter Sports Center also offer airport shuttle service.

Taxi

You can take a taxi, which is always the easiest way, to go to the city center or the surrounding districts and villages from Kars Airport. You can reach the city center in 10 minutes without waiting. The taxis waiting at the airport according to plane landings are usually used as share taxi by taking more than one passenger.

This is because there is a limited number of taxis at the airport and some taxi drivers would like to earn more by asking for the same taxi fare from more than one passenger. Before taking a taxi, it would be useful to ask if the taxi fare can be shared or not.

Airport Shuttle Services (Sınır Tourism)

The airport shuttle services which provide shuttle service according to landing hours go up to Faikbey Street in Kars city center and drop the passengers off in front of Vergül Tourism agency. The same shuttle company also provides transportation service 30 minutes after landing for the passengers who would like to go Ardahan from Kars Airport. The shuttle services go up to the Sınır Tourism agency on Kongre Street in Ardahan city center.

There is only one car rental company called Öz Sema Otomotiv which serves at Kars Airport. For this reason, you are strongly recommended to book your car in advance if you want to rent a car. You can reach the authorized person by calling the office at 0-474- 212 08 18. If you are going to get to the places like Ani Ören Yeri (Ani Ruins) and Sarıkamış Winter Sports Center and if you travel more than one person, renting a car may be a more flexible and practical solution for you.

Bus

You can also prefer to go to the city center by bus from Kars Airport. There is only one municipal bus to the city center and it runs according to flight times. The municipal bus, which departs at the airport, goes up to the Lion Statues (in front of the Zafer Kuyumcusu – Jewelry Store) in the city center. If you are going to the surrounding cities or the tourist attractions like Ani Ruins, you can get to the bus station from the city center.

Since the bus station and the airport are located on different routes, you can benefit from minibuses or the shuttle services of the bus transportation companies once you arrive at the city center. The bus station is 3 kilometers away from the city center. You can take the buses provided by Sarıkamış Municipality, which depart from the city center, to reach the hotels in Sarıkamış Ski Resort. Though most of the hotels in Sarıkamış welcome their guests at the airport by offering shuttle services, you should ask your hotel if they offer shuttle transfer service considering your transportation options. The ski resort is 50 kilometers from the airport and 60 kilometers from the city center.
