About Marshall Islands

The Republic of the Marshall Islands is located in the northern Pacific Ocean, northeast of Australia, and midway between Hawaii and Papua New Guinea. While English serves as the official language, a significant portion of the indigenous population prefers speaking the Marshallese language.
Apart from the predominant ethnic group, the Micronesians, the country hosts a substantial number of immigrants. Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands comprising 33 municipalities, stands as the most populous city with around 25,000 residents, featuring an international airport and a port. As of 2006, The official currency used in the Marshall Islands is the United States Dollar, and the country has a population of approximately 62,000.
The Marshall Islands' primary sources of income and exported products include coconut, coconut oil, fish, seafood, breadfruit, taro, and arrowroot. In addition to agriculture and animal husbandry, tourism is another significant sector contributing to the country's revenue. The archipelago's appeal is heightened by its tropical climate, making it a popular destination, especially during the summer months. Overall, the Marshall Islands experience a tropical climate with constant rainfall between November and May, followed by dry weather for the remaining months, with a decrease in hurricanes and storms after May.
Although not renowned for its extensive culinary repertoire, the Marshall Islands offer diverse flavors through traditional dishes, particularly featuring exotic sweets made from coconut water. Local cuisine, occasionally incorporating coconut as a spice, presents interesting tastes that tourists find irresistible, sharing similarities with dishes from many other island nations.
While drawing inspiration from global cuisines, the country's cuisine has some unique dishes like "jebkan" (pork and taro dish), "mejjelok" (octopus salad), or "lanit ejen" (traditional desserts). Seafood is a prevalent choice, and rice is a staple, along with significant consumption of chicken and pork.
