Transportation to Airport from New York City Center

John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport

There are many transportations methods available to get from the city center to the airport. No matter where you are in New York City you have access to the metro. Take the metro to Jamaica Station or Howard Beach Station, both of which are close to the airport; from there you can get on the AirTrain line and take it all the way to JFK.  

To get from Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn to JFK you can take metro line A to Howard Beach Station. Then get on the AirTrain, which provides transportation to the terminals. The duration of the trip can vary according to where in the city you are departing from, but it usually takes around 60-75 minutes.  

To get from Manhattan to JFK you can take metro line E or the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train. Both lines go to Jamaica Station, from where you have to get on the AirTrain to get to the airport terminals. LIRR is the fastest option while the metro is the cheapest option. To get from the north of Queens or the south of Brooklyn to JFK, you can take the J line or the Z line. The metros and trains run every 5-10 minutes.

The NYC Airporter express shuttle bus service is another transportation alternative. These shuttles depart from Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal and Port Authority Bus Terminal and the total time to get to JFK takes about 90 minutes. One thing to consider when picking this method of transportation is the varying traffic conditions. These shuttle buses run every 30 minutes.  

Airport Information

JFK International Airport is the busiest airport in the United States, in terms of international passenger entry into the country. JFK serves passengers with 6 terminals, Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, Terminal 4, Terminal 5, and Terminal 6. Close to 100 airlines from 50 countries land at this large airport. AirTrain trains provide transportation between the terminals. There are parking lots in various parts of the terminals, which can accommodate a total of 15,000 vehicles. These parking lots offer both short-term and long-term parking.

There are a total of 5 large hotels located in close proximity to the airport: Crowne Plaza, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Radisson and Gardens Inn. These hotels offer shuttle services to and from the airport. To get to the hotel shuttles, first get on the AirTrain and take it to Federal Circle Station. You can access the hotels using the shuttles that depart from this station. The 6 passenger terminals at the airport all offer a wide variety of eating and drinking venues. Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonalds, Euro Cafe, Starbucks, New York Hotdog, Eat & Go Istanbul, Wendy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Subway are only a few of them.

If you want to go shopping your options are endless. There are many Duty Free shops like International Shops Duty Free, DFS Duty Free, and Duty Free Americas. You can also find many brand name stores like L’Occataine, Pandora, Swatch, Hudson, Victoria Secret, M&M’s Store, Best Buy, Guess, Hermes, Mont Blanc, and BVLGARI. Lounge services belonging to various airlines, like British Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, KLM, and Air France are scattered throughout all the terminals.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 have the most lounge services. The airport contains a total of 22 lounges. You can connect to the internet at the airport for a fee. There are daily or monthly unlimited plans or you can also connect by paying an hourly usage fee.


Newark Liberty Intl. Airport

From Penn Station, one of the city’s major stations located in central Manhattan, you can get to Newark Liberty Airport Station in about 30 minutes by taking the NJ Transit train or the Amtrak train. From this station you need to get on the AirTrain trains, which depart every 3 minutes and get to the airport terminals in about 10 minutes.

The Newark Airport Express service is another transportation alternative to get to the airport. These buses depart from Bryant Park, Grand Central Terminal, and Port Authority Bus Terminal and the total time to get to Newark Liberty Airport is about 60 minutes. If you are going to use this method of transportation we recommend taking the varying traffic conditions into account. These buses run every 30 minutes.  

Airport Information

Newark Liberty Airport was the first airport to open in New York. It is ranked second in terms of passenger density, after JFK. Newark Liberty Airport has a total of 3 passenger terminals, Terminal A, Terminal B, and Terminal C. Terminal A is divided into 3 satellite buildings. Terminal B was expanded into a 3 level facility. Terminal C was built after Terminal A and Terminal B. Terminal C only handles United Airlines and United Express flights.

Like JFK, AirTrain trains provide free transportation between the terminals and the parking lot.

There are a variety of restaurants and cafes located in all 3 terminals, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, Subway, Market Fresh, Villa Pizza, Phillip’s Seafood, Wendy’s, Java Moon Cafe, and World Bean.

If you want to go shopping your options are endless. There are many Duty Free shops like EJE Duty Free, Duty Free Shop, and Dufry Duty Free. You can also find many brand name stores like Swatch, Hudson, Best Buy, The Body Shop, Sunglass Hut, MAC, and L’Occataine. Lounge services belonging to various airlines, like British Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Jet Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and Porter Airlines are scattered throughout all the terminals.

Terminal B offers the most lounge services. You can connect to the internet at the airport for a fee. There are daily or monthly unlimited plans or you can also connect by paying an hourly usage fee.

Transportation to Fukuoka City Center from Airport

Fukuoka Airport

Fukuoka Airport, located 3 kilometers east of Hakata Station in Fukuoka city center, is the 4th largest airport in Japan in terms of passenger traffic. You can take the metro from metro station outside the arrival terminal, or take the city buses to get to the city center from Fukuoka Airport. Alternatively, you can also take one of the taxis at Fukuoka Airport. If you are going to stay in Fukuoka for a long time and visit other cities in Japan, you can also rent a car at the airport. You can reach the city center from Fukuoka Airport in 10 minutes maximum.

Metro

You can take the metro in Hakozaki direction from the metro station located at the exit of Fukuoka Airport arrivals terminal. Then you can transfer to the Nanakuma line and go to Tenjin-Minami station. Please remember that you need to buy your ticket at a ticket vending machine in the station to take the metro. Once you step out of domestic arrivals terminal, walk south and take the free shuttle bus. The shuttle bus will take you directly to Fukuoka Airport metro station. You can reach the central places in the city directly thanks to metro lines you can take from Fukuoka Airport. Meinohama, Muromi, Fujisaki, Nishijin, Tojinmachi, Ohorikoen, Akasaka, Tenjin, Nakasu-Kawabata, Gion, Hakata Bus Terminal, Higashi-Hie, and Gofkumachi are some of these places. According to 2017 tariff, the price of the single metro ticket varies from 260 to 370 Japanese Yen depending on your destination.

Bus

One of the most popular means of transportation to reach the city center from Fukuoka Airport in a very short time is the city buses. There are many bus stops outside both the domestic and international arrival terminals. All of the buses departing from these stops have different routes and you can reach almost everywhere in the city. "City Bus" lines have two different routes as Nishitetsu and Royal. The bus stops of Nishitetsu buses are Hakata Bus Station, Fukuoka Tower (Yafuoku Dome), Aeon Mall Fukuoka, Ohori Park, and Arao Stani. Canal City Hakata, Tenjin City Hall, and Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk are in the route of Royal Bus. Highway Bus goes through Hita, Kumamoto, Kurume, Omuta, Arao, and Greenland Resort & Spa. The express buses also departing from Fukuoka Airport pass through Lizuka, Tagawa and Hakata Bus Station.

Taxi

It is very easy to reach Fukuoka city center taking one of the airport taxis run by Fukuoka City Taxi Association (0924345100). If you want to take another option other than airport taxis, you can contact other taxi companies operating in the city to get a taxi at the airport: Fukuoka Kotsu (+81926437622), Panda Taxi (+81927162170). You will possibly reach the city center from Fukuoka Airport in about 5-10 minutes and taxi fare costs about 1800-2300 Japanese Yen.
