Hongqiao International Airport is located 13 km from the city center, in the Changning district. The airport is the city’s main domestic airport, serving few international flights.

Rail

The Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station connects directly to Terminal 2 at the airport. There are 2 major lines that run through the airport station, connecting the city with the airport in a very convenient way. Passengers who want to get to the airport from the city center by train need to take Line 2 or Line 10, which take about 19 to 22 minutes to get to the airport.

Bus

Buses are not a preferred method of transportation due to the heavy traffic in the city. However there are various bus lines that provide transportation to the airport from the city center. Bus line 941 runs from Shanghai Railway Station, among other stops, to Terminal 2. Bus line 316 is a night bus providing transportation to the airport.

Taxi

Taxis are not the most preferred method of transportation to get to the airport from the city center due to the heavy traffic in the city. Nevertheless, you can easily find a taxi in the city’s commerce, arts, culture, and residential areas. Despite being located in close proximity to the city center, taking a cab to the airport can take 30 minutes because of traffic.

Car

To get from the city center or trade center to the airport by car you have to take the Yan’an Road, which is a major road that goes through the center of the city, to the G50 Expressway. This will connect to the Hongyu Road, which connects to the airport. There are 3 different parking lots at the airport that have a combined capacity of 800 vehicles.  

Airport Information

Located 13 km from the city center, Hongqiao International Airport was the first civilian airport in the city. However today the airport mainly serves domestic flights. The airport consists of two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2; the second terminal was built in 2010 to support the Shanghai Expo. There are free shuttle buses that provide inter-terminal transportation. The airport contains many restaurants and shops that cater to the Asian demographic. There are also world-famous restaurant chains as well as a large duty free shop and event spaces located at the airport.

Pudong Airport

Located 30 km from the city center, Pudong International Airport is the city’s main international airport. The airport is located in the Pudong district and is an important international hub for Air China.

Rail

To get to the airport from the city center or People’s Square, you have to take Metro Line 2. You can get on the metro at the Nanjing Road East Station and take it to Longyang Station. At this station transfer to the Maglev Train, which provides direct access to the airport. You have to purchase a ticket for both the maglev train and the metro you will be transferring to. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the airport from the city center.

Airport Bus

Bus line “Airport 5” departs from the main train station in the city and provides transportation to the airport. However since the traffic in the city is generally very congested the arrival time can vary. Most passengers don’t want to take that risk so airport buses aren’t a very popular transportation alternative. It can take over 2 hours to get to the airport using this bus.

Taxi

English is not widely spoken in the city so we recommend you have the name of your destination written down in Chinese or use a map to point out where you want to go. You can also have the hotel staff help arrange a taxi for you. A taxi from many parts of the city to the airport takes around 45-50 minutes. For taxi rides that are over 10 km the taximeter charges 3.6 Chinese yuan per kilometer.

Car

Driving is a troublesome transportation alternative since traffic in the city is bad and the roads are constantly changing. However to get to the airport from the city center you have to take the North-South expressway, pass the Huangpu River, and connect to the Huaxia expressway. Following this road will connect you directly to the airport. The airport contains a parking lot with a capacity of 4,500 vehicles. Parking is free for the first 20 minutes.

There is also a train network in the city and you can travel both inside the city or outside the island by these trains. One type of ticket is used in all the vehicles of public transportation. You can buy your ticket from the machines at the metro stations, main bus-stops, the airport and the Hilton Hotel in the city center.  You can buy one-way ticket, but there are also 1-day, 3-day, weekly and monthly tickets. Daily ticket costs 10 dollars. Although winter months are very cold and snowy, there is a cycling path in Montréal which is about 400 km long and people cycle at every chance. If weather conditions are convenient during your stay, you can rent a bicycle and see the whole city without the fear of safety.

You can consider renting a car according to the season in the city. Generally, you don’t need to do it due to the successful metro system. On the other hand, driving a car can be problematic in winter and roads are often ruined because of the weather conditions. The biggest ease in renting a car is the absence of the parking problem and opportunity of parking your car for free around the city.

There are two separate airports in Montréal. The first one is Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport where international flights are executed. This airport is approximately 22 km far from the city center and extremely modern. Montréal Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport is the second airport, which is closer to the city center. This airport, where international flights aren’t executed, is mostly used for domestic flights and charter flights. The airport also operates as an airplane parking area. The flying school is also in this airport. Some plane companies execute their test flights here. There are eating and drinking areas and means of transportation to the center at the airport, which has 3 runways in total. The airport is only 15 minutes far from the city center.

It cannot be said that Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is close to the city center because it is located 22 km away from it. However, you can reach both the city center, neighboring cities and distant towns easily from the airport. There are many alternatives from municipality buses to limousines. Shuttles or hotel buses are among the other means of transportation you can benefit from.

Express Bus

You can go the city center from the airport by the express bus route 747 in 45-60 minutes. Last stop of the bus is the central bus-stop in the city center and Berri-UQAM metro station is right next to it. These buses are in service for 24/7. The ticket costs 10 dollars. You can use all the metro and bus routes with this ticket for 24 hours. You can buy your ticket in cash or with credit card from the machines in the international arrival terminal of the airport. The ticket can also be bought inside the bus, but you can only pay in cash in this case.

Bus

You can go to Dorval Train Station in the city center by the public bus route 204 and Roxboro-Pierrefonds Train Station by the bus numbered 209, which leave from the exit of the airport. The ticket costs 3,25 dollars. You can buy your ticket in cash or with credit card from the machines in the international arrival terminal. If you wish, you can buy a daily, 3-day or weekly card and use any kind of public transportation easily during your whole stay. Daily card costs 10 dollars.

Aerobus

You can reach the city center for 15-25 dollars by Aerobuses which drop the passengers at several different stops in the city center. You can find the Aerobuses at the exit of the arrival terminal. Train / Minibus If you will go to another city and need to switch to a train, you can reach Dorval Train Station by free-of-charge minibuses that leave from the airport.

Hotel Shuttle

A lot of hotels around the airport provide shuttle service for free. Apart from them, hotels in the city center can also provide this service on payment. After learning the fee from your hotel beforehand, you can make a reservation to use this service if you find it convenient.

Taxi

You can reach the city center by taxi for about 40 dollars. Traveling time takes around 20 minutes. You can pay in cash or with Visa, Master Card and American Express credit cards.

Limousine

If you want to make your travel special with a luxurious vehicle, you can use limousine taxis at the airport. You can reach the city center from the airport for 55-60 dollars in approximately half an hour. Limousine fees can also be paid in cash or with credit card just like taxis.

Car Rental

Due to long and extremely cold winters, renting a car is not a much-preferred transportation alternative in the city. Airport Shuttle

4 different private companies offer shuttle service at the airport. These companies provide service for going to the neighboring areas rather than the city center. Orléans Express provides round-trip shuttle service from the airport to Trois-Rivières, Ste-Foy and Québec City. You can buy your ticket from the desk in the international arrival terminal. There are shuttles at several hours every day. Greyhound offers round-trip shuttle service from the airport to Ottawa and Gatineau. You can buy your ticket from the desk in the international arrival terminal. A few rounds are executed after 11:00 am every day. You can reach the towns on the eastern side of the city from the airport with shuttle service provided by Aéronavette. The company provides shuttle service every day of the year. Shuttles operate with door-to-door service. Autocars Skyport also offers transportation to Mont-Tremblant from the airport. The company provides services in winter, only between December and April.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, which connects Montreal with the rest of the world, is located about 20 minutes from Montreal city center. From the airport to the city center, you can choose from many alternatives such as public transport, taxis and shared cars. You can take a bus that runs 24/7 to get to the center of Montreal from the airport. If you prefer a more private and comfortable vehicle, you can travel with the Montreal taxis waiting for you in front of the terminal, use the trains to get to and from many points in the city, take advantage of the hotel shuttle, or come directly to the center with Uber. Buses and trains are among the best options if you prefer a more economical vehicle. However, if you prefer to get to the center from the airport comfortably at the best price, you can choose Uber vehicles or taxi cabs.

Bus

From Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Montreal, you have easy access to the city center 7 days a week and 24 hours a day by bus 747. The length of the journey with the bus carrying the passengers directly to the center of Montreal varies from 45 to 60 minutes depending on the situation of the traffic. 1 day bus ticket costs 10 dollars. With a daily ticket you can travel more than once in the city. You can choose the 3 day and weekly tickets by learning the current ticket prices from the airport counselor or ticket sales points. Bus tickets can be purchased from the ticket sales point located at the airport and from the downtown Montreal center. You can take the bus number 204 to the Dorval station or take the bus number 209 to Roxboro-Pierrefonds.

Train

To transfer to VIA Rail Canada trains, you can take advantage of the free shuttle service from the airport to the train station in Dorval. When you arrive at the train station, you can reach the centers such as Montreal, Toronto, Kingston and many other points between these places by trains. Uber

Uber vehicles serving in Canada and many other parts of the world are also being used extensively at Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The Uber service, which takes its passengers from the front of the airport terminal, takes you directly to the city center in a short time, with convenient and comfortable vehicles. At the airport, Uber vehicles take passengers from gate 6 and leave them at the entrance of the city center.
