About Baracoa
Baracoa is a city in the Guantanamo Province in Cuba and is an old settlement in the eastern tip of the country. The city was founded in the beginning of the 16th century and was the first capital of the country, and is therefore known as the "First City".
The city is located where the famous explorer Columbus landed in Cuba on his first voyage and is completely surrounded by a mountain range. Because of this, it has been separate from other regions for many years, which causes it to be quite isolated.
The place where the city is, which was found by Christopher Columbus, was described at the time, as a paradise crowded by colourful birds. Today, it is one of the best places that reflects the colourful spirit of Cuba with its joyful festivals organised, especially in spring. It is also very enjoyable to cycle around the city, which is home to many magnificent beaches.
Whichever month of the year that you decide to visit the city, you can be sure that you will find a great atmosphere, where a warm climate temperature continues throughout the year. The country is not wealthy, but the people are happy and this reflects in the Cuban energy that they give to guests who come to visit. You can have a great time watching dance performances and stage performances organised in the streets of Baracoa. After a short journey from the center, it is also possible to swim in crystal clear waters.
During your trip to Baracoa, you can stay in comfortable hotels in the region or you can choose to stay in guest rooms of the local people in the country. Rooms in homes are usually cheaper to stay in and these places are great for a closer look into Cuban lifestyle.
