About Basco
Basco, the city center of the Batanes region in the Philippines, had a population of 8 thousand according to the 2010 census. Basco is located on the Batan Island, which is the second largest island of the Batanes Islands and the northernmost island of the Philippines.
The city gets its name from Capitan General Jose Basco, who led the Philippines to gain their independence. The Basco Lighthouse is one of the city’s most important structures. The city has a large number of schools, including primary and secondary education schools.
Basco has a tropical rainforest climate, with warm temperatures during the winter that get even hotter in June and July. The Basco Airport serves flights to Manila and Baguio, with aircraft companies such as PAL Express, SkyJet, NorthSky Air and Air Republic.
