About Batsfjord
Batsfjord, located on the northeastern coast of the Varanger Peninsula, has a population of about 2,500 people. At the same time Batsfjord is a fishing village that has survived as a sheltered harbor from many abandoned villages like Hamningberg on the island.
In Batsfjord, an active resting place and tourism center today, Varangerhalvøya National Park lies in the southern part of the municipality, and Makkaur Lighthouse lies in the north. Again, well preserved architectural structures from the 19th century are very interesting. Batsfjord is also home to beautiful hotels such as Polar Hotel, Scandic Vadso, Berlevag Pensjonat and Vardo Hotel. With the influence of barren landscape climate, only native trees can survive here and the annual average temperature is measured as 1.6 degrees centigrade.
