About Dakhla Oasis
Dakhla is a city that is located in the Western Sahara Region and controlled by the Kingdom of Morocco. This city was built on a narrow peninsula of the Atlantic coast. Generally, there is a mild arid climate in the city, and it receives at least 40 mm of precipitation annually. Dakhla is an extremely convenient region in terms of water sports, and it also attracts attention of tourists thanks to its nature and ecology. Oyster farming is one of the traditions in Dakhla. The grown oysters are firstly sold to restaurants placed in the cities such as Marrakech or Casablanca. Then they are sold to local people of Dakhla, businesses and to Europe.
The main economic activities of the city are fishing and tourism. In the recent years, Dakhla has become an important center in terms of water sports. The city is extremely popular for water sports such as kite surfing and windsurfing. Dakhla and its surrounding area are also very weak in terms of vegetation cover, just like most of the Western Sahara Region. However, sea water of the region is considered to be an important habitat in terms of sea creatures and some bird species, which is contrary to land. Dakhla peninsula and Cintra Bay are important areas especially for birds in the winter months. Dakhla has a different meaning in terms of travel experience for tourists thanks to its natural habitats and water sports. Dakhla air transportation can be provided via Dakhla Airport. This airport is located in the center of the city and it is only 5.5 km away from the city. Flights between Istanbul and Dakhla city take at least nearly 10 hours and 50 minutes with one or more transfers.
