The construction of Dallas Fort Worth Airport began in 1940 and was completed in 1953 with a delay due to World War II. The airport is located between neighboring cities Dallas and Fort Worth. It is the largest airport in Texas and the second largest airport in the United States. Until 1985 Dallas Fort Worth Airport was operating only domestic flights and then after this date started to make international flights. The airport has five terminal buildings and 65 million passengers travel to 56 international and 157 domestic destinations every year. Dallas Fort Worth Airport is also the third busiest airport in the world.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and the largest hub for American Airlines. There are a number of ways you can get to the city center from the airport, including options like taxis, public transportation, and rental cars. Rapid Transit

The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) high-speed trains or Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) trains are a great way to get to the city center from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. These trains stop at various stops in the city. The TRE line station is located in close proximity to the airport. If you are going to take the TRE line you have to first take the shuttles, which depart from the bottom floor of each terminal every 15 minutes, to the Remote South Parking area. From there you have to get on the buses that go to the CentrePort Train station. Train ticket prices can vary; you can purchase a single day use ticket for around 5 USD or a single use ticket for around 2.25 USD. The train to downtown Dallas takes about 20 minutes.

Those who want to take the DART have to go to the train station located at the lower level of Terminal A. If you land at a different terminal you can use the Skylink to get to Terminal A. DART fares are the same as TRE fares. However the TRE doesn’t run on Sundays while the DART operates every day of the week.

Airport Shuttle

There are a variety of airport shuttle buses that provide transportation to various parts of the city. The most widely used shuttle bus company is the Go Yellow Checker Shuttle. Other shuttle bus companies that you can use include City Shuttle and SuperShuttle. These buses are accessible from the top floor of each terminal at the airport. Shuttle fares start at 15 USD and are collected once you are on board the bus. You can also pay the fare with a credit card.

Taxi

Airport taxis are accessible from the top floor of Terminals A, B, C, and E, and the bottom floor of Terminal D. There are auxiliary staff members at each taxi stop. Taking a taxi to downtown Dallas costs around 45 USD.

Hotel Shuttles

Many hotels offer free shuttle services from the airport to the hotel. You can find out more information regarding these shuttle services from the hotel you made a reservation at or at the information desks at the airport. These shuttles pick up passengers at the bottom floor of each terminal.  

Rental Car

The Car Rental Facility is located in close proximity to the southern entrance of DFW. The Car Rental Facility features 10 rental car companies, including Budget and Avis. To access the Car Rental Facility you have to follow the signs located at the bottom floor of each terminal, after you get your luggage. These signs will take you to the bus stop from where buses provide free transportation to the Car Rental Facility. These buses run every 10 minutes and operate 24 hours a day.

Taxi

Taxis are a very convenient transportation alternative to get to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport from the city center. Taxi fares are calculated based on the kilometers traveled. Taxi fares will vary depending on your location in the city but on average it costs around 50 USD to get to the airport from the city center.

Rapid Transit

If you want to use public transportation to get to the airport the DART and TRE trains provide transportation from various parts of the city to DFW. Once you reach the airport train station there are free transfer services that provide access to the terminals. These transfer services usually provide transportation to Terminal A. From Terminal A passengers can take the free Terminal Link vehicles to get to other terminals. Rental Car

Another method of transportation to get to the airport is by rental car. You can rent a car from various rental car companies located in the city. Before you get to the airport you have to drop your vehicle off at the Car Rental Facility. From there you need to get on the transfer buses that provide free transportation to the airport.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is the largest airport in Texas. Currently the airport operates 5 terminals, with plans for a 6^th terminal to open in the near the future. The airport overs such an expansive area that it has one of the largest airport train systems in the world. The Skylink trains run every 2 minutes and provide transportation between terminals. Certain brands have stores in multiple terminals.

If you want to take advantage of tax-free shopping for items you’ve purchased while on your trip you have to go to the Tax Free counters located in Terminal D. The airport features restaurants offering American cuisine, Mexican cuisine, and Asian cuisine, as well as ice cream shops, seafood restaurants, Starbucks, and fast food chains like Burger King and Pizza Hut

The airport also features services that cater to families, like children’s play areas, walkways, and a movie theater.
