About Kyoto
Kyoto, the capital of Japan Empire before Tokyo, is the 3rd largest city in the country. Kyoto, the largest city in the metropolitan area formed by the Kobe-Osaka-Kyoto trio, is also known as the "City with Thousand Temple". It is even reported that American planes did not bomb Kyoto in World War II because of these temples.
Like the rest of the Japan, Kyoto is a technology city. It is an advanced city especially with regards to video and computer games. Nintendo, Tetris, Mario, Tennis, Sim City, which many of us know today, are either the names of companies based in Kyoto or the games produced by the companies here. Besides the technology-driven journeys, the city has an important historical and cultural background.
In Kyoto, which hosts more than 30 million tourists annually with its around two thousand temples, festivals continue for over a thousand years. Located in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Uji and Otsu cities in Old Kyoto are also home to historic temple, castle and structures that shed light on Japanese architecture and culture.
