Puerto Vallarta, often referred to simply as Vallarta, is a Mexican beach resort city situated on the Pacific Ocean's Bahía de Banderas in the state of Jalisco. As the second-largest urban agglomeration in the state, following the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, Puerto Vallarta serves as the government seat for the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta. This municipality encompasses the city and surrounding population centers, extending from Boca de Tomatlán to the Nayarit border (the Ameca River). Positioned at 20°40′N 105°16′W, the city is part of a municipality covering 681 square kilometers. It shares borders with the southwest of Nayarit to the north, Mascota and San Sebastián del Oeste to the east, and Talpa de Allende and Cabo Corrientes to the south.
