San Miguel de Allende is a city and municipality located in the east of Guanajuato State of Mexico. San Miguel de Allende, which was awarded the world's most beautiful city by Travel + Leisure magazine, is one the most popular destinations visited by a great number of visitors from all over the world thanks to its cobblestone pavements, Spanish colonial style architecture and cuisine having specific tastes.
The city, which was built in 1542 as “San Miguel” by San Miguel El Grande, a priest from San Francisco, became a center during the Mexican war of independence and was renamed as San Miguel de Allende after Ignacio Allende who was the hero of the independence movement.
