About Tarawa
Tarawa, which is the capital of Republic of Kiribati, is a coral island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In the city known with the Battle of Tarawa during the Second World War, there is a population of about 20 thousand people according to the data of 2010. Tarawa, which is a large lagoon today, has extensive reef areas. Although the region is quite rich in terms of fish and various shellfish, they are unnecessarily harvested by the local people.
