Zurich has a very well developed public transportation system within the city. This system also serves the airport, which is located 13 km from downtown Zurich. Using the tram or bus lines from anywhere in the city you can get to the main railway station, Zurich Hauptbahnhof. From this station you can easily take a train or tram to the airport. Zurich Airport is accessible by train, bus, tram, and taxi.

Train

Taking the train to the airport from the city center is very practical. Trains depart from the main railway station and get to the airport in about 12 minutes. Trains also run every 12 minutes.

Trains depart on time and are very reliable, unless there is a special circumstance that is causing a delay. The train provides transportation directly to the Airport Station, which is located on Level -2, next to the airport shopping center. Bus

The city is famous for its public transportation network and the bus network throughout the city is especially advanced and comprehensive. Taking a bus to the airport is another convenient transportation alternative. You can take a bus from the main railway station, which is easily accessible from every part of the city. Buses provide direct transportation to the Airport Centre. Buses are on time and reliable under normal circumstances; in case of snow there can be delays.

Tram

The city’s tram network is also very advanced. The tram network extends to most parts of the city but the lines surround the city center. If there is a part of the city that is not accessible by tram you can transfer to a bus or train to get to your destination. Tram Line 10 provides transportation to the Airport Centre from the main railway station.

Taxi

Taxis are another convenient transportation alternative to get to the airport from the city center. However, taxis are more expensive when compared to public transportation options. Public transportation in Zurich is very comfortable and reliable, so you can enjoy the same comfort-level using public transportation for a fraction of the price.

Airport Information

Zurich Airport is located 13 km from the city center and is the primary international airport serving the city. It is also the largest airport in the entire country. In addition to offering convenient transportation alternatives to and from the airport, Zurich Airport also features services to meet passengers’ pre-flight and post-flight needs. Zurich Airport contains many shops, located both before security and after. The general area before security check features stores such as Migros, Herren Globus, and Inter Discount and places you can get a bite to eat or something to drink like Starbucks and McDonald’s.

Once passengers go through security they have access to a variety of services and venues. Passengers can go shopping for quality products at stores like Schweizer Heimatwerk, Porsche Design, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Greider, Omega, Swatch, Swarovski, Tommy Hilfiger, and Victorinox. The Duty Free shops offer passengers luxury products at reasonable prices. The airport also contains bookstores and gift shops where passengers can buy small items and knickknacks.  

There are a variety of restaurants located in the passenger zone, including Burger King, Center Bar, Chalet Suisse, Montreux Jazz Café, and Walter. Rijeka city center is located about 25 kilometers from Rijeka Airport and the journey to the city center takes about 30 minutes by car and taxi. In front of the terminal in accordance with flight times, taxis, buses and rental cars are waiting ready which are some of the alternative vehicles offered to travelers who want to travel from Rijeka Airport to the city center. If your priority is to travel more economicly to the city center the best choice would be to travel by the buses which are arranged in accordance with flight times. On the other hand, if your priority is to travel more comfortable and where you can carry your belongings more easily than an economic vehicle, an alternative you may prefer is the taxis that are ready waiting in front of the terminal. Rental vehicles are waiting for travelers who want to stay in the city for a few days or to explore different centers in the vicinity of Rijeka.

Bus

If you choose the airport shuttle buses departing in front of the Rijeka Airport terminal, you can complete your journey a lot more affordablely compared to other vehicle options. Also the buses to the city travel at the same speed as taxis and rental cars. However if you use the bus you may still need to use a taxi or a different vehicle from the city center to your destination. The journey time of the 25-kilometer route from the airport to the city center by bus is between 30-35 minutes. The cost of the airport bus to the city center is only 20 Croatian kuna per passenger. Buses travel through places such as Opatija, Kraljevica, Rijeka, Omisalj and Crikvenica. If you want to travel from Rijeka to a different city nearby, you can take the airport bus to the terminal and then change to one of the local buses traveling to other cities. There is no extra charge for suitcases on buses and you can make your payment when you get onto the bus.

When you depart from Rijeka Airport, you can complete your journey to Rijeka city center in minutes not hours by following the directions to the center of the city. Please note that in Rijeka, as in many other cities you must have an internationally valid drivers license for car rental.

Taxi

Taxis await passengers at the taxi stop out front of Riijeka Airport, for those who do not prefer buses and rental cars when traveling from the airport to the city. Although the buses to the city are not so expensive, the taxis are usually found to be affordable and the price is worked out by a taximeter system. The fact that the city center is not too far away prevents the taxi journey in Rijeka to be expensive, but it is not as affordable as buses. If you cannot find a taxi in front of the terminal after you have landed, you can ask the airport information desk to call a taxi for you. If you need to travel further afield outside the city in Rijeka you can try to make a bargain in order to reduce the taxi fare or you can complete your journey by offering the driver a deal at a fixed rate.
