About Auxerre

Auxerre, one of France's small and historic cities, is located in the heart of Burgundy Region of the Wine-growing region of France. Built on the banks of the Yonne River, the city is the capital of the Yonne Department and the fourth largest city in the Burgundy region. The city is also located in the middle north-east of the country. The history of Auxerre stretches back to the Roman Empire. However, the development of the city accelerated during the Roman Empire. Auxerre has played a major role in the industrial development of the region, as wine production has been an important source of income in the past as it is today.
