About Belem

Located in the northern part of Brazil, Belém is the center and largest city of the Pará state. Belém, an important port city, is known as the first city established by Europeans in the Amazon Region. Belém features modern architecture with various parks and interesting buildings in the city center. The city’s economy depends on nuts, coffee, pepper, wood veneers, and aluminum. Due to its geographic location Belém has a tropical climate. The city receives a lot of rainfall, even in the driest months. The average annual temperature is 26.8 and the average rainfall is 2,537 mm.

Located in the city center, the main attractions to visit include the Belém Cathedral, Forte do Presépio, Museu de Arte Sacra do Para, and the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. The Federal University of Pará, located in the city, has students from all around the world. The Belém Art Festival, which is held in May, attracts the participation of local artists as well as foreigners.

Belém has a very vibrant nightlife; with events that host live music and dance shows. The Belém cuisine has an ethnic structure and therefore offers a lot of variety. The city’s cuisine features special delicacies from all over the world, using a lot of spices, sauces, coffee, and palm oil. We recommend trying one of the country’s traditional dishes, spicy meat cooked in different leaves. The Val de Cans International Airport, one of Northern Brazil’s most important transportation networks, is located close to the city center.
