About Bitburg

Bitburg is a city in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, 50 km northeast of Luxembourg and 25 km northwest of Trier. In 2010 the city had a population of about 12 thousand people. Bitburg is located in close proximity to the American Spangdahlem Air Base. The Bitburger brewery is the most widely known establishment in the city. Bitburger is Germany’s third-best-selling beer brand, having sold over 3 million hectoliters in 2008.

NATO opened an air base in Bitburg in 1952, which was later turned over to the city in 1994. In 1995 that base became the Bitburg Airfield Trade Area, which features various facilities and establishments belonging to 180 enterprises. There is a railway network that provides transportation in the city. Major attractions in the city include the Regional Museum of Bitburg-Prum.
